Named after the late Tribal President Rudy Ortega Sr., who led the descendants of this village now known as the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, Rudy Ortega Sr. Park became the setting for a powerful mural unveiling that brought the San Fernando community together to honor culture, memory, and place. The striking mural, recognized for its detailed imagery and deep connection to the site’s history, reflected a strong collaborative effort rooted in community voices. During the unveiling, Elder Bernice shared a request to include lupines in tribute to her father, a sentiment that resonated deeply and was embraced by artist Erica Friend, who returned to add the flowers—ensuring personal history and collective remembrance were meaningfully woven into the final artwork.
