We offer tutoring throughout the school year to assist in all aspects of our students’ academic needs. We have fun themed days on special occasions as well. Please sign-up for our program and come join us.

The Tataviam Education and Cultural Learning Department will be hosting a 3-day Tamoa’t Sewing Circle for the Winter Holidays!

The FTBMI’s Education & Cultural Learning Department’s early literacy program. The program is funded by the Talk Story Grant and provides California Indian, Native American/Alaska Native, and Indigenous Western Hemisphere picture books and conversational discussion questions for caretakers, pre-school and kindergarten children. The program promotes literacy and Indigenous cultural awareness for the entire community.

This program is geared towards Infants – 1st Graders.

•  The four-day workshop will be teaching students how to operate filmmaking equipment and to create fun video content.

• In coordination with the Sewing Circle workshops, families will have the opportunity to craft Intertribal dance regalia.
• Families are encouraged to participate with inter-generational American Indian dance workshops.
• ECLD students will be provided a female and male dance instructor knowledgeable of several powwow dance styles and one drum presenter will provide appropriate songs for various styles.
• All presenters will teach participants origin stories of each dance, the drum, their significance, and applications today.

2019:

Once a month on Saturdays, starting January 26, 2019

• ECLD is partnering with Tribal TANF – Antelope Valley to coordinate these events.
• Programs will provide Indigenous youth cultural and ethnobotanical experiences on traditional Tataviam homelands within Los Angeles County.
• The events will include a knowledgeable presenter of ethnobotany and/or cultural practices.

This is offered through UCLA’s Tribal Learning Community & Education Exchange (TLCEE) program. It has been created to “introduce programs that are interdisciplinary in scope, emphasizing both legal and general education that includes Native peoples’ perspectives, knowledge, priorities, and visions for the future within higher education.” To read more about the Native Leaders program, please click here.

Camp TAMIT has consisted of activities, such as swimming, field trips, athletics, healthy food, beverages, and popular films with the emphasis of incorporating Native culture in the program.

As part of Camp TAMIT, ECLD offers a special leadership opportunity that is available to teenagers between the ages of 14-16 years old. The Volunteen position offers professional development with leadership, communication, and adaptability skills throughout camp. We encourage caregivers to enter their youth as Volunteens, not only for the reduced rate of attendance but also for the professional and academic outcomes like employment resumes and scholarship applications.

1-2 Colleges per semester

ECLD students are encouraged to attend college and college campus tours provide them a college pipeline of networks, resources, and familiarity with the American Indian college experience.

Students will meet American Indian facility, staff and recruiters.

Students can tour the campus, ask questions to staff, interact with college students, experience communal dining areas, dormitories, and various education departments.
